If you are new to the community or would like to spend some time on the golf course, why not join MOGA (Men’s Oakwood Golf Association?) Our Thursday games are a good way to meet some new friends. You don’t have to be a resident of IronOaks to join our group. We have over 380 active and handicap-only members, with golfers at every level. MOGA has an event each Thursday throughout the year. Join MOGA and meet some new friends, while playing a variety of team and individual games each week.

Upcoming Schedule for November MOGA games:

Nov. 3: AABB Scramble/CCDD Scramble 8 a.m.; Individual Low Net by Flight 12:30 p.m.

Nov. 10: Beat the Pro-Kevin (75% handicap) 8 a.m.; Beat the Pro-Kevin (75% handicap) 12:30 p.m.

Nov. 17: ABCD Shamble* 8 am.; Individual Low Net by Flight 12:30 p.m.

Nov. 24: Individual Stableford by Flight 8 a.m.; No PM play

Overseeding schedule is as follows: Ironwood: Sept. 19 to Oct. 9; Oakwood: Oct. 2 to Oct. 26.

The skins games going forward will be from the blue tees for single-digit handicaps. Higher handicaps can continue to play from the white tees with a skins game run by Keith Landry.

Dates followed by an asterisk are MOGA Appreciation Days with free beer and soda in the afternoon.

Game descriptions are on the MOGA website www.mogagolf.org, and results of each week’s event are posted on the website. Payouts to weekly participants have averaged 50%, so come out and win some Pro Shop chits.

Membership: Re-enrollment for 2023 MOGA membership is now underway. Join or enroll online, and you can use a credit card and save some money.

Getting to Know … MOGA Handicap and AGA – Steve Newkirk

Steve Newkirk and his wife Stevie were married 10 years ago. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, when he was 12, and after high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. After four years serving our country as a crypto radio operator, he spent 40-plus years working as a corporate engineering director where he managed video transport technologies around the country, working in both the telecom and cable industries. He is an avid golfer, playing to a 15 handicap. His hobbies include golf, traveling, playing music, and volunteering for various golf events around the Phoenix area.
