Every organization needs strong leadership, and that includes not-for-profits like New Adventures in Learning. We rely on our volunteers to lead program administration, to offer an appealing program (curriculum), and to support presenters and members alike.
Our leader Bill Haskell has been steering our proverbial ship of learning for the last three years—longer than normal because of the pandemic. We applaud his dedication, service, and contribution to the organization during a very difficult period.
Bill presided over the January annual meeting of our organization’s membership and introduced New Adventures’ 2022 officers.
* Rob Truman has been serving as president-elect and is now stepping into presidential shoes. With credentials in both adult education (with a master’s degree) and information technology (with a B.S.), Rob has provided technical support in organizations like U.S. Navy, Microsoft, and our own New Adventures. We appreciate Rob’s expertise and leadership and know he is a good fit for our organization because of his focus on and dedication to lifelong learning.
* Brent Burgesser is an enthusiastic volunteer stepping into the position of president-elect, a two-year term. He is a financial/wealth advisor who is well known in the Southeast Valley and currently owns and operates his own firm.
* Bill McCoach has worked as a chief financial officer for multiple companies. Besides being a presenter, Bill has provided invaluable support to the organization as our treasurer for more than three years and has been elected for another two-year term.
* Virginia Allen spent 30 years as a university librarian in Missouri and Texas and volunteered to serve as New Adventures’ secretary when a vacancy occurred last year. She is continuing in her position for a full two-year term.
* Also elected at the January annual meeting were three members-at-large: Carole Rockland, Larry Noser, and Michael Buscaglia. They will serve with other volunteers on the Executive Committee of New Adventures’ Governing Council.
Through the efforts of our Governing Council and other dedicated volunteers, New Adventures is presenting more than 75 classes this spring. Here is just a sample of classes still to come in March:
* The Arizona Trunk Murderess
* The Greatest Year in Movies
* Marching Home: How one law changed American
* Thomas Edward (T.E.) Lawrence AFTER Arabia
* The Magic of Desert Plants
* Sights & Tales of Southwest & Southern Arizona
* Writing a book and self-publishing
* Gmail—Beginner to Pro
* Defer or Eliminate Capital Gains Taxes
Visit us at www.newadventures.info to learn more about New Adventures’ spring classes. You can find classes every week through the end of April, so it’s not too late to sign up. But don’t wait too long. Some classes fill up quickly.
New Adventures presents classes at the Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Sun Lakes Center, 25105 S. Alma School Road (northeast corner of Alma School and Riggs Roads). The Center is open Tuesday through Thursdays for classes and to offer assistance. Face masks are required.
