The Palo Verde Ladies Golf Association (PVLGA) members concentrated on golf in March and not basketball. It paid off, too, but none of the tournaments they played in were a “slam dunk.”
3/5. Eclectic. The second round of the Eclectic Tournament was played this month. The am/pm winners were: Flight 1: Paddy Newton (64), Tracy Rice (68) and Nancy Hermanson and Mary Nelson (tied – 69); Flight 2: Jan Nelson (70), Barb Smith (72) and Tammy Visser (73); Flight 3: Jane Lewis and Lee Sonderman (tied – 76) and Diane Kruse (78); Flight 4: Marsha Deuel and Diane French (tied – 79) and Elaine Isaacson and Ginger Mays (tied – 80); Flight 5: Wanda Wiggins (81), Kathy Komishke (82) and Barbara Gann, Pat Schultz and Lori Snodgrass (tied – 84). Well done, ladies!
3/19. Club Championship. The 2019 PVLGA Club Championship was won by Mary Nelson with a score of 72. Congratulations, Mary! Other players fought hard, too, and the winners were: Flight 1: Tracy Rice (1st), Val Verbeck (2nd) and tied for third was Jo Crook and Bonnie Moore; Flight 2: Sherri Butler (1st), Diane Kruse (2nd) and Barb Smith (3rd); Flight 3: Marilyn Lloyd (1st), Ginger Mays (2nd) and tied for third was Elaine Isaacson and Diana Ridd; Flight 4: Bonnie Kane (1st), Karen Ryan (2nd) and tied for third was Noella Bannister, Janis Bazzill and Sandra Labute.
3/26. Member-Guest Tournament. The Member-Guest Tournament was a lot of fun again this year for everyone. One hundred forty-two ladies played a two-person team select-a-drive, and each was required to have a minimum of three drives on each of the nine holes. The team winners were: Flight 1: Carole Guild and Paula Ferguson (1st), Kathryn Campbell and Denise Devereaux (2nd) and Barb Smith and Trudy Houghton (3rd); Flight 2: Diane French and Marion Silverman (1st), Jo Crook and Karen Welker (2nd) and Pat Tjosvold and Ellie Franklin (3rd); Flight 3: Jane Lewis and Virginia Cook (1st), Carolyn Agre and Paula Schroeder (2nd) and Cathy Brabant and Mary Buhrt (3rd); Flight 4: Shirley Trusal and Marlene Knightley (1st), Marcia Smith and Betty Ennis (2nd) and Diane Kruse and Helen Jeub (3rd); Flight 5: Kay Berner and Mary Berner (1st), Rita Raymond and Marie Welch (2nd) and Wanda Wiggins and Alice Wiggins (3rd).
Four players were awarded closest to the pin prizes. Those won by PVLGA members were Cindy Ryan (#8) and Elaine Isaacson (#17). Guests that won them were Coleen Denefe (#2) and Marlene Knightly (#15).
