Norma Stallings

Reggie Wegman

Norma Stallings got a hole-in-one! It happened on July 1 on a par 3 hole on the Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield, Utah! The hole was 110 yards long. Norma and her team watched the ball fly towards the green, but no one saw it drop into the hole. She searched the edges of the green and two bunkers, and low and behold, there it was in the cup waiting to be discovered! Congratulations!

Norma is one of our gals from outside the community, but what a great addition to our league. She is responsible for the yearly OLNGA handbooks and directory. Let’s hope her next hole-in-one is here in Oakwood so she can collect $100, as Sue Boucher did last month.

There are a few ladies playing in the summer. These rare souls just can’t stay away from the course. We start play at 6:30 a.m. and finish quickly. Some teams have adopted quicker ways to play, like using best drive or teeing up at the 150 marker! More fun and less work.

So far, no reports of heat exhaustion. Remember to keep drinking whatever you have and to remind your threesome.

Please send me anything interesting or fun going on in your lives this summer. We have actually had a few nice rain storms. But if you are out on the course and hear thunder, there may be lightning, so head for cover to keep safe. It is recommended that you do not park under a tree when there is lightning. Cover means a building or hard-topped metal vehicle. So, if you even think there may be lightning, get off the course. Rather be safe than fried!
