On March 11 Oakwood Lady Niners sponsored an invitational golf tournament. The theme was “It’s All About the Shoes.” Roseann Kindernecht’s friend decorates shoes, which are unbelievably gorgeous. The shoes were displayed at the tee boxes, along with facts about shoes and women’s fascination with them. We can never have too many pairs. And remember what Forrest Gump said about shoes: “There’s an awful lot you can tell about a person by their shoes.” Not sure what flip-flops tell us.
The generous ladies who attended the tournament raised over $1,000 for the Child Crisis Arizona charity. Child Crisis provides emergency shelter, foster care, adoption, counseling, education, and parenting support services to Arizona’s most vulnerable children and their families.
The money was raised by chances sold for fabulous gift baskets. Some of the baskets held rounds of golf, golf equipment, Mexican goodies, wine, and delicious treats. Shanyn Engler and Linda Berg-Carmichael collected generously donated items and assembled the baskets. A 50/50 cash raffle was also held.
This invitational tournament required lots of planning and organization, which was started last year. President Karen Graves and Vice President Sue Boucher and lots of volunteers were responsible for the day. Our neighbors from Sun Lakes Country Club and Ironwood joined us for the festivities. A scrumptious lunch was served. Overall, the event was a great success. Congratulations to all who were involved with the day!
Remember, the heat will soon be with us, so get your YETI cups, cool towels, and salty snacks ready, along with your sunblock lotions.
If any of you have something newsworthy, please let me know. I would love to include it in my article.
Good golfing!
