Okay, golfers, here is a word to the wise. On an OLGA play date, I only played 12 holes before I had to leave for a doctor’s appointment. The next day I looked up my scorecard on GHIN, and I had been given four triples and two doubles on the holes I didn’t play! Amanda McCloone did some research and discovered that if you put an “X” on the unplayed holes, Golf Genius assumes you shot your max and gives you a net double bogey on every unplayed hole. Lesson learned.
On to better news. OLGA and MOGA recently held their annual golf outing. This event is always a good time. The game was select a drive and then one best net from ladies and one from the men. The scores were ridiculously close. As I have said before, a few missed putts makes all the difference.
The winners were Sally Berreth, Linda Morris, Dan Scott, and Gary Painter with a 109. Second place was Mary Dyrseth, Pam Grimmer, Gregg Harvey, and Nate Ellis with a 111. Third and fourth place were a scorecard playoff, with Barbara Kassel, Barb Anderson, Ron Reach, and Jack Lehmkuhl winning third and Peggy Cooper, Linda Anderson, Will Hooke, and a blind draw coming in fourth. Both teams had a 112. Fifth place was Mary Figgis, Mary Keith, Dan Muth, and Richard Deninno with a 113. Sixth place was Amanda McCloone, Vicki Scott, Gil Holden, and Dan Strafalace with a 113. Three groups not mentioned here tied for seventh, eighth, and ninth place with a 114. As you can see, the difference between coming in second and ninth is only a matter of three strokes, or should I say, three putts that didn’t go in. How many times have you finished a golf round and thought to yourself, “If only I’d made those three or four easy putts I missed, I would have had a good round.” For me, it’s pretty much every time I play.
Last but not least, I owe an apology to Dari Akin. In the last Splash article I included a picture of the winners from Guest Day and identified Dari in the article and picture as Dang Teater. Whoops!
The heat is on its way, so stay hydrated and sink your putts.
