OLGA member Janet Kelleher made a donation to the Walgreens Charity Classic, which gave her a chance to win a four-person team to play in the LPGA Legends Tour, Walgreens Charity Classic Pro-Am. She never really expected to win it, but she did! Fortunately for me, OLGA’s humble publicist, Janet picked me to be on her team. I was elated! What a terrific opportunity. When Janet asked if I’d like to play, I couldn’t say yes fast enough!
We didn’t know which Legends Pro we would be playing with until we got to The Grandview Golf Course in Sun City West on Friday, March 6. There were 50 Legends Pros playing in the event and we’d be honored to play with any one of them. A few of the pros were none other than Nancy Lopez, Juli Inkster, Rosie Jones, Jan Stephenson, Pat Bradley, defending champion, Lisolette Neumann and the list goes on.
Janet’s team included Patty Gray, Nancy Gray and me. We were lucky to get Jan Stephenson (the pin-up girl of golf in the ‘80s) as our pro. She told us we were good golfers, which made us feel creditable. She was fun to golf with and didn’t make us feel overwhelmed or nervous. It was amazing to be right there, playing with a pro. We were thrilled!
This incredible opportunity had us putting on the putting green, warming up on the range and eating with some of the best lady golfers the world has ever known and actually playing a round of golf with a pro! Wow, we are still pinching ourselves.
As a side note, Janet caddied for Alicia Dibos during the two-day tournament. What an honor!
