Siyaa Poddar, a recent graduate of Arizona College Preparatory High School, was selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) International Sisterhood. She was recommended by P.E.O. Chapter DW of Sun Lakes.
The P.E.O. Star Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships to exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary education institution in the U.S. or Canada, in the next academic year. The STAR Scholarship is very competitive. Women must exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, community service, and the potential for future success.
Siyaa will attend Yale University New Haven, Conn. She will pursue degrees in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Law. In addition, Siyaa applied for and was accepted as one of Yale’s Y.E.S. Scholars. Yale Engineering and Science Scholar Program entitles Siyaa to be paid for any research and have an assigned, advising, faculty member working with her on research.
P.E.O. has been motivating, educating, and celebrating women for more than 157 years. P.E.O. was founded in 1869. Since its inception, P.E.O. has transformed the lives of women by providing grants, scholarships, awards, and loans for higher education. In addition, P.E.O., owns and supports Cottey College, a liberal arts college dedicated to women.
