Hospice of the Valley recently held a seminar concerning dementia at the Sun Lakes United Methodist Church. Volunteers from Perfect Place were there as were members of the congregation and other residents of Sun Lakes. The participants came away enlightened, enthusiastic and appreciative of the information they were given. Perfect Place volunteers receive training periodically and will be busy this winter. Join us. We will have a complete list of seminars in next month’s article.
The program which was titled Understanding the Journey of Dementia was directed by Maribeth Gallagher. Dr. Gallagher directs Hospice of the Valley’s Dementia Program which is the recipient of national and international awards for its innovative approaches to dementia care. Those in attendance were given information on the value of the caregiver role and managing the stress by understanding dementia and its progression from stage to stage. In addition, there were suggestions for making and maintaining meaningful connections with the person with dementia.
The Perfect Place is located on the campus of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Sun Lakes. We are a nonprofit faith based adult care center. Our volunteers are knowledgeable of Alzheimer’s, dementia, developmental disabilities and various adult neurological challenges. Most of us have had a loved one for which we were a caregiver. We enjoy what we do.
If you believe your family or caregiver would benefit from this service contact Eileen Curran or Judy Waltersdorf at The Perfect Place.
