Pickleball players don’t just have fun on the courts, we also have fun social events. October is our Halloween social. Through the years, we have had so many outstanding costumes; a caveman and giant dinosaur, Mr. and Mrs. Big Head Trump and, of course, many witches and goblins and especially treats and prizes.
JoAnn Zapatka provided the rotation and teams for the play. Players commented the groups were evenly matched, so everyone had a great time, and the weather was perfect. You have to really be a wizard to figure who and where each team is to play, which JoAnn does expertly. I helped her, so I know how hard it is to keep everything going smoothly. Thank you, JoAnn! Each team played six games. We started at 9:00 a.m. and finished by 12:30 p.m. There were a total of 28 players.
Winners of the Wizard group were Karen Hickman and Bob Harper. Second place was Scott Hickman and Ellen Forbes. Winners of the Warlock group were Ray Schwimmer and JoAnn Pederson; second place was Bev Haines and Mike Koehlmoos.
USAPA tournaments are now starting up, so if you win a medal or two, please send to me (Janet Myrick [email protected]) the information and photo so I can add to our Winners Corner in the Splash. We have very good players in IronOaks and the other Sun Lakes communities and many winners. Some of our players will have played at the National Tournament at Indian Wells in November, and I will be submitting those winners and photos, hopefully by the January Splash.
