Many members of Contract Bridge Club at Oakwood participated in a recent tournament. The event is a popular part of the annual Desert Empire Regional Bridge Tournament hosted by American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Unit 354 and District 17. The tourney this year was held at the Convention Center in Mesa, Arizona, October 6 through October 12, 2014.
This event features Life Master Bridge players, the Pro, partnering with novice players, the Amateur or Am, to compete in 26 duplicate pre-dealt hands. This year 133 pairs played.
Rod Bias, the event director, tells us that the annual Phoenix Pro-Am Event is the “biggest and the best in the west!” He reports that it is the second largest in North America. Unit 354’s success in this area has inspired Pro-Am Events in Denver, Colorado and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Congrats to the winners and thanks to Rod Bias and Unit 354.
