This month we honor two fairly new members, Janet Hartkopf and Sandy Lundburg. These two wonderful young women joined our Rotary group recently; Sandy in 2013 and Janet in 2014 and went straight to work. Together they produce and edit our weekly newsletter and take care of our overhead projector for all our presenters and programs. It’s hard to tell what we would do without them at this point. Our club first met them when we got involved with the school they worked at, Arizona College Preparatory Oakland CUSD in Chandler. At the time they were in need of radios to enhance the safety of their students and we responded to their call by raising the necessary funds and applying to the Rotary District for assistance and cooperation. Since then our collaborations have continued and we now have a very up to date computer lab at our disposal for regional trainings for our District.
Janet received her education at Illinois State University and Rio Salado College. She and her husband John have one son and belong to Chandler Christian Church.
Sandy received her education at the College of St Benedict /St. Mary’s University. She and her husband William have two children and belong to the Centerstage Community Church. She now works for the District in the Curriculum Department.
Rotary International takes a strong interest in education promoting learning and advanced degrees throughout the world. We in Sun Lakes celebrate the strong relationship we have with the Chandler School District and its Superintendent Camille Castile. With her support and encouragement we engage in a variety of programs throughout the district from the Dictionary Project in elementary, Choices in high school and a variety of initiatives and collaborations promoting science, math and engineering as a vocation. Dr. dePrez, the Principal of Hamilton and Jayson Phillips, the Principal of Arizona College Preparatory, are also members of our club and serve in a number of capacities. Each month we also provide a recognition program for outstanding teachers with the collaboration of Arizona Trust Bank.
We are especially grateful to Janet and Sandy for their contributions to our club and for their continual support and ongoing dedication and presence. Congratulations on your well deserved nomination.
