SACK conference at SLUMC

March 20-21, 2015

March 20-21, 2015

On March 20-21, the community will have the opportunity to meet Dr. James Kok, the popular author of 90% of Helping is Just Showing Up and The Miracle of Kindness…Changing the World One Act at a Time.

Dr. Kok will be one of the keynote speakers at the “Simple Acts of Care and Kindness” (SACK) Conference to be held at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church on March 20-21.

In 1996 Dr. Kok published 90% of Helping is Just Showing Up. That book inspired the founding of the Conference on Care and Kindness which draws men and women from all over the continent to receive inspiration and instruction in refining their skills while being reminded that showing up is the first and essential step.

Joining Dr. Kok as a featured keynote presenter is Dr. John Vawter who authored Achieving High Performance Friendship and Uncommon Graces.

A former college president, pastor and Campus Crusade for Christ Regional Director, Dr. Vawter believes, “Relationships are the most important commodities in our lives,” and he examines character traits that bring dignity to human relationships.

Other outstanding presenters include the following:

Mrs. Christy McClendon, President/CEO of New Pathways for Youth and recipient of the 2014 Greater Phoenix ATHENA Award for the Public Sector;

Joelle Hadley, Founder of The Culture Coaches – Creating Positive and Productive Work Environments and columnist for The Arizona Republic; and

Dr. Julian Pickens, founder of Intervention Services of Arizona and a noted speaker on the intervention process nationally.

Presentations will also be made by these organizations:

The Arizona We Want Institute — a vision of former Arizona State University President Dr. Lattie Coor (now serving as Chairman and CEO of the Center for the Future of Arizona); and

Hospice of the Valley, a not-for-profit organization devoted to providing hospice services to meet the special needs of adults, children and their families facing terminal illness. Presentation will be on “Caring for the Caregiver.”
