Scandinavian Club Plans a Fall Picnic in Mid-October

From the archives (circa 1900): Scandinavian immigrants enjoy a picnic smorgasbord in their new country.

Maynard Iverson, President and Historian, SCSEV

Area residents of Scandinavian ancestry, or those who have an interest in Scandinavia, are cordially invited to a fall smorgasbord/picnic! It has been seven months since our last meeting, and we are eager to see our Scandinavian friends and supporters again!

The potluck picnic will take place on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Oasis Park, which is just west of the Sun Lakes Country Club on East Sun Lakes Blvd. The Scandinavian Club will furnish all utensils, beverages, and dessert. Please bring a dish that will serve eight people. Our smorgasbord potluck dinners always provide a great selection of food, so we advise you to come hungry!

There will be ample opportunities to visit with other attendees, and you will be asked to share your “connections” with Scandinavia. This is always an interesting session! A 50/50 charity drawing will also be held.

We ask all who attend to have completed the vaccinations for COVID-19. Use of face masks is optional, but you should wear one if it makes you feel safer! The CDC has reported that outdoor events are relatively safe. The open shelter at Oasis Park should qualify!
