We look forward to our November meeting with Penny Sturges. Penny is the owner of Quilts Illustrated and designs bags of all kinds. Come and see what new ideas she has for us. That meeting will be on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, at 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd.

We were thrilled to have seven new members join us at the September meeting. We also had a lot of interest in our group from the Community Days displays at Sun Lakes, Cottonwood, and Oakwood. Thank you to all who stopped by to say hello and check us out. We hope to see you at a monthly meeting soon.

Our October meeting was a presentation by some of our Special Interest Groups to let everyone know what we do. All of our charity groups are looking for help to continue their good work. Pads4Paws completed 40 pads in September, and we are now gearing up for the Phoenix Veterans StandDown in January. We distribute pads, not only to the StandDowns all over the state, but also to many rescue shelters. We meet on the third Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and the following Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

We have combined Dolly Dressers and the Pillowcase project under the new title of Children’s Charities. We will continue refurbishing dolls and making pillowcases and have added race tracks, car carriers, and small totes that will be filled with a toy, coloring book, and crayons, or another child’s toy. This group will meet on the first Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. At the same time each month, we will continue our Walker Bag project to make walker bags to donate to hospitals and retirement residences. Kits are available for pillowcases and walker bags, so you are able to take the kits home and sew, or you are always welcome to stay and do your sewing in the Sewing Room during that time.

We have a group called Stitch and Chat that meets on the third Friday morning from 9 a.m. to noon, which gets together to knit, crochet, or do handwork of any kind on any project you want to work on. Love your featherweight? Join our featherweight group on the first Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. We have a group that meets on the third Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. to learn their Cricut (or another brand of cutting machine). We also have a Beading Group that meets on the second Monday from 1 to 5 p.m.

These groups and our classes that are scheduled monthly are for members of Sew-N-Sews, so come to our general meeting to learn more. Our general meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. Our business meeting starts at 1 p.m., but come early and see what goodies are on the Stash table that need a new home.
