On May 8 Sew-N-Sews held our last meeting until September. There was a great turnout. Although some of our members had already left for the summer, we still had a full room. We were pleased to welcome many visitors and three new members. Show and Tell was a huge hit, as always. No one is more appreciative of our many creations than a fellow sewist.

We said farewell to the outgoing officers: President Phyllis Prysock, Vice President Patti Hutson, Secretary Ann Barberg, and Treasurer Janet Rogers. Carolyn Luse, one of our former presidents, acknowledged the outgoing board and expressed appreciation for all the hard work these dedicated officers put in. Carolyn then installed and welcomed the new officers: President Barb Brandt, Vice President Rita Grant, Secretary Eileen Turner, and Treasurer Connie Hogan. The new officers are already planning the programs and activities for the coming meeting year.

During April and May, our members have been busy with many sewing projects. As groups gathered in the Sewing Room, they noticed the room had been improved with the addition of new tools to help members during their classes and Special Interest Group meetings. A big thank you to Joan Anciaux for the new cutting mat she donated for the large cutting table. Joan’s generosity will be appreciated by all who use the room.

Our Special Interest Groups had a productive month. This month, Children Charities worked to get dolls ready for donation. Each doll was dressed in new clothes and paired with a blanket. The dolls have been donated and the clothes made by our generous members and community. Plans are in the works to make and fill totes for children. Pads4Paws completed 58 pet beds. These will be added to the thousands that have been donated over the years to veterans and local rescues by Pads4Paws. Our Cricut Special Interest Group learned to use their cutting machines to cut out the fabric used to make tea towels and bowl cozies.

During recent classes, members completed “quilt as you go” placemats and mesh tote bags.

For those members who brave the Arizona summers, Special Interest Groups plan to meet all summer. Classes and workshops are planned for the remainder of May, June, and July. There will be a few Christmas projects and many other surprises. Members will be updated about the summer activities in newsletters, which will include calendars. Any time that is not scheduled for a class or Special Interest Group can be used by members to complete PHDs (Projects Half Done).

Sew-N-Sews will resume general meetings in September. If you have any questions, please contact us via email at [email protected].
