Sew-N-Sews ushered out 2024 in style with their annual luncheon. This year they dined at the Palo Verde restaurant. They enjoyed a presentation by the Sun Lakes Chordaires.
Many of the Special Interest Groups continue to do some extraordinary projects. The SOS (Sharpen Our Skills) Group has been working on techniques to make their sewing even more fun as they put together some pouches to share. The Featherweights Group used old blue jeans pockets to make Christmas angel tree ornaments. The Embroidery Group worked on making some ornaments for Ronald McDonald House. Children’s Charities continue to work on their Easter baskets and already have many pillowcases and baskets ready for donation. The group is growing and, with the help of members, is almost at their goal of more than 150 baskets completed.
Sew-N-Sews members continue to strive to learn from each other and share their skills, ideas, and friendships. The latest guest speaker inspired the members with her presentation of upcycled garments and accessories. Melissa Wildwood from Wildwood Wearables had a beautiful presentation of the many modes that she works in: clothing, hats, belts, and, most notable, her handbags! She displayed some of her one-of-a-kind articles and shared how she developed her business. Her inspiring story made for great conversations after the meeting. Her creativity was all the buzz.
Rita Grant continues to impress us with the latest totes, and her appliqued tote has been so popular that she is planning one more class. Nancy Kirk is also offering a series of classes to create with thread sewing. She is taking members to a brand-new experience with sewing and the freedom of creation with their machines.
We’re looking forward to 2025 being another inspiring year for the members, with upcoming presentations in smocking, home décor, and more upcycling at the general meetings. Classes continue, and workshops are being planned throughout the new year. Visitors and new members are always welcomed at the general meetings. The January meeting will be returning to the Navajo Room in Sun Lakes Country Club at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. These monthly meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month and begin at 1 p.m.
