Our July 18 meeting will feature Jackie Rich, a Phoenix native and a Master Gardener. In 2010, Jackie’s yard was included in the Real Gardens for Real People Tour, organized by the University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Service Master Gardeners. At that time, she was interviewed by a reporter with Arizona Republic who dubbed her the “Queen of Compost” because of her enthusiasm for decomposition. Jackie has been composting since the 1980s and currently has 10 composters in her backyard and two worm boxes. She has been a compost speaker at numerous garden tours and home and garden shows. Jackie finds composting is the perfect intersection between her good intentions to eat more fruits and vegetables and surround her home with magnificent plants and the subsequent guilt when the food rots in the fridge and the plants fail to thrive or grow well. Come and learn how to make use of your discarded fruit, vegetable and plant parts into wonderful fertile soil to help you make a magnificent garden around your house.
