SLCC Presents the Desert Winds Concert Band March 3

Rosemary Kovatch

Back by popular demand, the Desert Winds Concert Band will be returning for a wonderful afternoon of music. You will hear a variety of showtunes, jazz, marches, and other traditional concert band music to create an afternoon of fun and excitement while bringing back memories of music you have always enjoyed. This is a free concert held in the Sun Lakes Country Club Arizona Room. However, donations are graciously accepted to help defray expenses for new music. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to fill up the room. They will not want to miss the concert! Be sure to put Sunday, March 3, at 5 p.m. at Sun Lakes Country Club on your calendar so as not to miss it.

This is the second year for the Desert Winds Concert Band to perform at SLCC. The band practices in the Apache Wells Resort Church Social Hall every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from late October until the end of March. Each year the band plays four or more Christmas concerts as well as four to six spring concerts in the Valley.

The Desert Winds Band is made up of 40 to 50 musicians consisting of many educators and those who have played over the years wanting to “Strike Up the Band,” creating memories of their early years of playing in an organized group, high school, and college alike. They are an all-volunteer band under the direction of Bob Myers who taught music in New Mexico. There are currently three members residing in SunBird and three members in the Sun Lakes community. We invite anyone interested in playing in the band to dust off their instrument and come join us.

Please join us on March 3 at 5 p.m. at SLCC and sing along to your favorites, tap your toes to the infectious rhythms, and enjoy!
