SLWA offers comfort

Barb Meisberger

In August, 2015, I approached the Sun Lakes Women’s Association for help with a project I had recently undertaken to aid breast cancer patients after surgery and was greeted with an overwhelming response.

Coming from a family that has a breast cancer victim in each generation (mother, sister, daughter and self included), I can well appreciate the need for such a small but necessary item and realize how worthwhile this project is for the women of our own Sun Lakes Community.

I credit my inspiration for the comfort cushions to Rayma Scalzo, a wonderful woman from PebbleCreek, who along with the PebbleCreek Quilters has been making and distributing these pillows within that community.

I cannot begin to thank the many generous volunteers who stepped forward to cut, sew, stuff and fund this project. Special gratitude is extended to Diane Stern, Julia Powell, Janet Rogers and Joanne Spurlock.

The pillow is available upon request from the ladies of our Sun Lakes Women’s Association throughout the month of October at their Monday workshop in the Arts and Crafts Room at 9:00 a.m. and also at any of the breast cancer awareness events at the Sunset Grill and Patio. The pillow will also be available at the November 14 Open House at the Women’s Association table in the Sun Lakes Country Club lobby.
