Spirit of the Desert Gourd Patch, based in Sun Lakes, just returned from the Wuertz Gourd Festival and annual Arizona Gourd competition with quite a few winning ribbons.

Our winning artists this year are Thelma Edwards, Evelyn Hanley-Bacon, Pattie Langton, Sally Lewis, Karen Lindgren, and Barb Sego. In addition, our Grand Masters Vicki McKenna and Julie Hemer displayed and were awarded ribbons, and our patch itself won a ribbon. We collaborated on a piece, and after winning a third place, we donated the piece to the Arizona Gourd Society fundraising raffle. We also created a second “sister” piece that we raffled at our booth.
