Spirit of the Desert Gourd Patch wraps up another year with our last meeting on April 20. While we don’t have our business meetings in the summer, we still get together every Monday for a workshop. Over half of our members are snowbirds, and it’s sad to say goodbye, but we look forward to seeing them next October.
The first week of April, eight of our patch members will travel to Prescott for a gourd retreat. It’s a four-day annual retreat of over 30 gourders from around the state. Attendees always come back with great new techniques to share and some fun stories.
Later in the month, our patch will have a booth at the Arizona Federation of Garden Clubs Convention in Tempe. Our members are busy finishing up gourds with a botanical flair to fill the booth.
If you would like to learn to be a “gourdist,” we’re here to help! Our patch has tools, supplies, and, most of all, help and experience to get you started. You can check our website, SpiritGourdPatch.com, for more information. You can also stop by the Painting Room in the Arts & Crafts Complex in Oakwood on Mondays at 10 a.m. Members meet there for a workshop weekly, even over the summer. Stop by for a visit and a gourd experience!
