Sun City Stomperz

The Sun City Stomperz and Deb Offenhauser

Helen Daley

While we love our local bands just the way they are, every once in a while, they present us with someone or something a little different from their norm. The Sun City Stomperz will be doing that during their Oct. 16 show for the Arizona Classic Jazz Society.

The regular piano player for the Stomperz is Lloyd Shaffer, and he is married to fantastic piano player Deb Offenhauser. In addition to playing piano, she is a world-renowned composer, professional entertainer/recording artist/coach and teacher. Deb’s style is described as eclectic, but she will be doing a few ragtime numbers on the 16th. Her goal is that her music blesses and inspires others.

Please join us for the fun afternoon in the San Marcos Ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix – Chandler Golf Resort, at One San Marcos Place, in downtown Chandler, from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $15 for Arizona Classic Jazz Society members; $20 non-members (become a new member on Oct. 16 and get in free; yearly membership $35 couple, single $25). Credit cards are not accepted at monthly events, so please bring cash or your checkbook. The public is welcome. There will be two dance floors and the choice of table or theater seating. For more information, go to www.azclassicjazz.org or call 480-620-3941.

The Sun City Stomperz will play four sets at the Nov. 3-6 Arizona Classic Jazz Festival, and their educational set will be “The music of Lil Hardin Armstrong.”
