Sun Lakes residents will have an opportunity to visit the Goldwater Gunnery Range on April 7 where they will see A-10 and F-16 U.S fighter attack jets in training exercise bombing and strafing ground targets at close range.

The range is a military restricted area and can be accessed only by permission from Luke AFB.

The tour is sponsored by the Sun Lakes Aero Club (SLAC) and is open only to current SLAC members. However, Sun Lakes residents may join the club by attending the club’s gathering scheduled for March 21 at the Sun Lakes Country Club Mirror Room. The session begins with coffee and camaraderie at 6:30 p.m., followed by a presentation on unmanned aerial aircraft or drones scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Dues are $15 per year.

Attendees will meet at the Cottonwood Country Club flagpole for a two-hour drive to the gunnery range, located south of Gila Bend. Meeting time will be announced at the March 21 gathering.
