After a fine and well-received Spring Concert on March 17, the Sun Lakes Chorale had only one more order of business before taking a summer break. That business was our annual meeting, which was held on April 4.
The meeting afforded some of our newer members the opportunity to express their feelings about having become part of this wonderful group. We heard words of gratitude, hope, and praise for those who plan these concerts, praise for their fellow singers and the musicians who accompany us, and anticipation for the upcoming season.
It was also the day we elect new board members. We said a fond farewell and expressed our deep appreciation to our president Kit Carlson for her hard work. Kit led us through some of the toughest times seen by the Chorale. To navigate this group through the pandemic was a frustrating task at best. Kit spoke with some emotion about all that the past four years have meant to her, and wished the new board members much success. Kit will now serve as a consultant to the new board.
We then held elections for the 2022-23 board. The new members are Jeanette Cline, president; Murray Rose, vice president; Yvonne Orlich, recording secretary; Diane Flannagan, corresponding secretary; Dan Morson, treasurer; and Donna Nelson and Mike Murray, members at large. The board members have held their first meeting and are already outlining plans for the upcoming season.
We have scheduled our annual Holiday Concert for Thursday, Dec. 8. Rehearsals will pick up again on Monday, Sept. 12. If you are interested in becoming a member, join us on Sept. 12. You can sit in on one or two rehearsals to be sure this is a good fit for you. If you determine you want to join, you can pay the one-year dues fee and collect your music. You will be asked to meet with our director, Cris Evans, who will make a vocal assessment and assign you to the appropriate section. We hope you will consider joining us.
Look for the Sun Lakes Chorale at the upcoming Open Houses this fall—dates to follow. Members representing the Chorale can hopefully answer any questions you may have at that time.
The Sun Lakes Chorale is a great group of people from our Sun Lakes communities who gather because of our mutual love of music. Please join us if you can. If you don’t wish to sing, you are welcome to attend our concerts. We’d love to see you in the audience.
