The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation May Interfaith Holocaust Service
The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation (SLJC) is an established reform congregation that meets at the Sun Lakes Chapel on the second Friday of the month. Services are a great opportunity to meet new people, connect with Judaism and learn. New attendees are invited to be introduced at the service and members of the congregation connect with these attendees. Oneg Shabbats are held immediately after our services at Sun Lakes Country Club. Everyone is invited to attend. The services and Onegs are a great place to meet members, ask questions and learn more about our congregation.
On Friday night, April 8, the congregation was treated to a very special Shabbat service that included a Yom HaShoah (Holocaust) observation and interfaith celebration. The Sun Lakes Chapel was filled to capacity with congregants from SLJC and our guest congregations. Visiting clergy included Reverends Dr. Martin Arnpriester, Dr. Vernon Meyer and Dr. Debbi Brown. Each of the visiting clergy read a Holocaust themed essay or poem. The SLJC choir and members of the church choirs, under the direction of Music Director Lana Oyer and Cantor Ronda Polesky, provided music and songs. These were very moving. Accompanist Shea Marshall and soloist Dan Lovelock provided inspiration to all. The evening ended as we looked to the future of the Jewish people when Emily Zappa, Executive Director of the Desert Jewish Academy, had children share their thoughts on the holocaust and then sing a song.
