Annual Fun Walk

A lot of you have been asking if we are going to have a Fun Walk this year, and the answer is yes! Plans are being made by the committee, and the date has been set for Saturday, Nov. 6. We will have our Kick Off Party on the night before, Friday, Nov. 5, in the San Tan Ballroom. The fee is $25 with all proceeds to go to The Greater Sun Lakes Foundation. You will receive a t-shirt, a raffle ticket (for Friday night’s door prizes), and a goody bag. Applications are located in the Administrative Office, on our web page, and in the Foundation’s web page. All applications must be in by no later than Friday, Oct. 15. We need time to get the t-shirts ordered and printed. Anyone who would like to join in after the 15th may do so but will not receive a t-shirt. Our annual Fun Walk takes place at Cottonwood’s 5 Lakes (the Greenbelt across from Cottonwood’s tennis courts). There are three walk distances to choose from: one-half mile, one mile, and around all Five Lakes (2.7 miles). There are also three different speeds for the walk (Speed Walkers Pace, Casual Walk, and Take Your Time). All Sun Lakes homeowners and their guests are invited to join us!

Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

On Thursday, Nov. 11, we’ll be honoring our brave veterans in the San Tan Ballroom. At 2 p.m., we will start off with the Arizona Ranger’s Honor Color Guard out of Prescott. We’ll listen to the beautiful sounds of the Sun Lakes Chordaries singing our favorite Americana songs. Our guest speaker is a veteran and is now serving as an Arizona Ranger. There will be cookies, coffee, and iced tea, and after the ceremony, we’ll be serving you hot dogs outside on the patio. All Sun Lakes homeowners and guests are invited.

Message from the President

Roger Beagle

August in Arizona means monsoon season, with afternoon and evening storms becoming more normal. We all wish for some rain to give us relief from the daytime temperatures.

Now is a good time to catch up on what is happening in our community:

It was just last month that I talked about the new pump station on hole 4 of the Cottonwood golf course. At the June board meeting, the board approved management’s recommendation to replace the pump station and do civil work on Palo Verde golf course hole 9. The oleanders around the pump station will remain, but there will be a lot of work completed that is hidden from sight. Both of these pump stations are 40-plus years old. Management felt this was the best time to complete the necessary replacement of the pumps, before they completely fail and create serious problems.

The new pickleball courts that were recently completed and the older, existing courts continue to see good use in the early morning and evenings.

The entertainment shows in the Cottonwood ballroom continue to be enjoyed by all who attend. In case you missed it, DJ Bingo (music-themed bingo) has started again. Plan on attending for a fun evening.

The Fitness Center Manager, Tim Rochford, is offering new exercising activities, equipment, and trainers. All homeowners are invited to come see what is on the schedule for your health and enjoyment.

Our Cottonwood and Palo Verde Pro Shop personnel provide their professional advice and help to homeowners for maintaining and improving their golf game. Be sure and check out the golf merchandise to keep you looking and playing well.

The Food and Beverage Manager, Marshall Reichert, and his staff provided “Tour Around the World” dinners on Saturday nights in July. They offer excellent entertainment, dancing, music, and food at both Cottonwood and Palo Verde.

As you can tell, I truly believe that all our managers and their staff continue to provide a wonderful opportunity for our homeowners and guests.

My wish continues to be that all our homeowners and their guests take part in the great enjoyment of our community amenities. They are here for your use!

Please enjoy your summer, stay healthy, and be safe!
