Sun Lakes – Cottonwood Palo Verde at Sun Lakes

Message from the President

Leonard Horst

Hello to each and every one of you! It has been another busy month here at SLHOA2. Our residents, our staff, and our contractors have been working diligently to complete projects before the hot weather arrives!

The management team and board hosted an Open House to celebrate the substantial completion of the new Computer Learning Center. It was great to have over 250 residents walk through the renovated facility and to hear the expressions of appreciation for the upgraded facility. The final piece to be completed is the audiovisual equipment installation. We expect to have all the components in hand and operational by the latter part of June. We are looking forward to hosting future board meetings in the new lecture hall.

Our standing committees have wrapped up their meeting schedules for this season and will be back in full force in September. In the meantime, management, staff, and the board will continue to fulfill their responsibilities throughout the summer season.

All of our facilities, including the golf courses, the racquet courts, the bocce ball courts, the activity rooms, the restaurants, the bars, and the pools will remain open and available for your use and enjoyment during the summer season.

Your board has adopted and committed to several goals and objectives for the coming year. We pledge to communicate with you in a clear and concise manner. We pledge to execute our responsibilities to preserve and protect our community and lifestyle. We fully accept our fiduciary responsibilities to our homeowners. We appreciate, value, and respect the input we receive from our committees and encourage homeowners to attend the committee meetings when possible.

Our residents rely on telecommunications services to keep in contact with family and friends, and oftentimes the Internet is a vital link to doctors, banks, online commerce, and so many daily tasks. We are very pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with Cox Communications to provide services to SLHOA2. We know having Cox in our community will enhance our residents’ experience.

Thank you for being a part of our community! Your board, management, and all employees are committed to your safety and enjoyment of this special lifestyle we are blessed to enjoy. We always appreciate your comments and questions and look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood!

Special Thanks to All My Volunteers!

Making a difference! Since I started as recreation manager for Cottonwood Palo Verde in October of 2021, I am in awe and grateful appreciation for what my volunteers do to help me make all my events so special. There are a few words to describe the work you do for me. Valuable—Valuable is the work you do! Notable—Notable are the contributions you make! Untiring—Untiring in your efforts throughout the year!

Easter took an amazing amount of 28 volunteers to make this successful. Volunteers started at 8 a.m. and helped take down games around 1 p.m. The volunteers took time with the children to teach them the games and keep them safe. A special thank you to Sun Lakes Lions, Breakfast Lions, and Rotary Club, for their time and money donated every year. Each club stuffs 2,000 eggs with money and candy and donates the money for the Golf Cart Parade prizes. Our Patrol and Arizona Rangers also dedicated some time to keep us all safe.

Cinco de Mayo Caribbean Style was the feel of a Caribbean resort on the patio of Palo Verde restaurant! This event was a combined effort from the Food & Beverage and Recreation Departments. The food, done by the Palo Verde chef and crew, was perfectly paired up with tequila drinks. The decorations took two days to build and put up. Staff and volunteers made this whole event possible! Not to mention the wonderful Caribbean Island Band with steel drums.

So, to all the people who volunteer to make each event special and wonderful, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A special thank you to Dave and MaryAnn Stevens for their help with setting up my sound and getting me music and Ricki O’Keeffe, my volunteer coordinator, who helps me find people for all events.

Mostly, thank you to my employees in the Recreation Department for going through some crazy days in preparing for all these events. It takes great minds to bounce things around and turn them into something worthy for our Cottonwood Palo Verde community.
