Did you by any chance make a New Year’s resolution? How’s that going? Perhaps you are looking for new ways to help motivate changes in your life. Our library has a section of books called Self Help. Why not check out this section and see what we have to offer? You might just find what you need for some new inspiration.

Resolutions of motions – regular Board meeting (4/5/16)

Motion No. 1 – 2016 Board of Directors Corporate Calendar

Director Peer moved that the Board of Directors approve the 2016 Board of Directors Corporate Calendar which did not include the Communications, Food and Beverage or Golf Committee meetings. Director Townsend seconded. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 2 – Installation of Blue Star Memorial

Director Bauer moved that the Board of Directors approve the placement of a boulder and the installation of a Blue Star Memorial Plaque in the center of the rock area between the three existing flagpoles at the Veterans Pavilion. Director Townsend seconded. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 3 – Calendar Share/Rollout of Microsoft Exchange

Director Downs moved that the Board of Directors approve a total amount not to exceed $3,100 to purchase and install Microsoft Exchange software from Microsoft 365 Business Essentials. Funds to be drawn from the Reserve Fund as outlined in the 2016 Approved Budget. Director Bauer seconded. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 4 – Solar Panel Rebuild – Clubhouse

Director Downs moved that the Board of Directors approve an amount not to exceed $2,559 to disassemble and remove the existing solar panels from the Clubhouse roof and re-route plumbing and electrical to the newer panels above the Fitness Center. Funds to be drawn from the Reserve Fund as outlined in the 2016 Approved Budget. Director Townsend seconded. Director Peer called for discussion. Questions from the members were addressed. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 5 – Jacuzzi Chemical Feeders at the Clubhouse Pool Complex and the Oasis

Director McNally moved that the Board of Directors approve a total amount not to exceed $7,000 to purchase chemical feeders for both the Clubhouse and Oasis Jacuzzis from Leslie’s Swimming Pool Supplies. Funds to be drawn from the Reserve Fund as outlined in the 2016 Approved Budget. Director Bauer seconded. Director Peer called for discussion requesting a bid with specific verbiage that would not allude to additional costs after installation. Questions from the members were addressed. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 6 – Men’s Fitness Center: Three-Stack Multi-Station Gym

Director Downs moved that the Board of Directors approve an amount not to exceed $5,450 to purchase a three-stack multi station workout center for the fitness center from Fit Logistix. Funds to be drawn from the Reserve Fund. Director Bauer seconded. Director Peer called for discussion. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 7 – Leveling of the Front Nine Tee Boxes

Director McNally moved that the Board of Directors approve the quote from FX Turf Specialists of $5,600 for turf removal and tilling, the quote from Barkshire Laser Leveling of $5,600 for laser leveling and the quote from West Coast Turf of $21,678.82 (includes tax) for the purchase of sod plus a 5 percent contingency of $1,643.94 for unforeseen issues that may arise during the rebuilding process for a total amount not to exceed $34,522.76. Funds to be drawn from the Reserve Fund. Director Downs seconded. Director Bauer called for discussion. Questions from the members were addressed. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 8 – Summer Adjournment of Three Committees

Director Bauer moved that the Board of Directors approve the summer adjournment of the Communications Committee, the Food and Beverage Committee, and the Golf Committee.

Director Downs seconded. All in favor, no objections.

Motion No. 9 – Member Assistance Program Club

Director Downs moved that the Board of Directors approve the suspension of the Member Assistance Program Committee, and approve the formation of a Member Assistance Program Club, with the Chairman named President of the Club. Director Bauer seconded. Director McNally called for discussion. All in favor,  no objections.

Mother’s Day Brunch

Date: Sunday, May 8

Cost: $22.95

Join us at the Sunset Grill for Mother’s Day Brunch! A delicious assortment of food, including a chef attended crepe bar, will be available. Groups larger than 15 planning to attend, please make a timed reservation for a large table when purchasing tickets. Tickets are now available at the Administrative Services desk at SLCC.

Jazz it Up!

Date: Saturday, May 14

Time: 5:00-9:00 p.m.

Location: Arizona Room

Cost: $15

Come enjoy a groovin’ night of jazz music with Jack Schaar’s Trio! An amazing Louisiana Cajun inspired buffet including garden salad with warm dinner rolls, fresh green beans, Cajun style roasted reds, smoked andouille sausage with peppers and onions, and shrimp etouffee over white rice is included with your ticket. This is a night that will surely take you into the Cajun pastime of the “joie de vivre” (joy of living)! Come enjoy the music, relax with friends, maybe dance a little and enjoy delicious food! Tickets on sale beginning April 14 at the Administrative Services desk at SLCC.

Memorial Day Celebration

Time: 9:00 a.m.

Location: Veteran’s Pavilion SLCC

The annual Memorial Day Celebration will be hosted this year by Commander Richard Veenhuis, VFW Post 8053. All are welcome to join at 9:00 a.m. at the Veteran’s Pavilion at SLCC. Memorial Day Celebration refreshments will be provided for the attendees by the Sunset Grill.

Don Scott New Image Fashion

Date: Tuesday, May 24

Time: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Location: Navajo Room

Don Scott New Image Fashion provides name brand fashions for less with women’s clothing, watch sales, and fashion shows. They offer 25-75 percent off brand names such as Alfred Dunner, Ruby Road, Valentina, Bali, Maxine Swimwear, etc. and have received over 5,000 new garments for spring and summer. Stop by for some great shopping right here in the SLCC.

Diamondbacks Baseball Trips

Dates: June 13, July 1, August 15 and September 30

Time: Bus leaves at 5:15 p.m. for all games

Location: SLCC Parking Lot

Cost: $45

Enjoy suite level seats, round trip bus transportation and all you can eat food at Chase Field! Tickets will go on sale for each game after the previous game has concluded. Handicap seating is available with a timely request. Please note there is a fair distance to walk and some stair climbing may be required. Wheelchair assistance is available upon timely request. SLCC and the Diamondbacks will do everything they can to assist you, with proper notice. Purchase your tickets at the Administrative Services desk.

Tequila Tuesdays

Date: Every Tuesday Friday

Time: 2:00-7:00 p.m.

Location: North Patio

Tuesdays on the north patio enjoy complimentary chips and salsa and purchase $3 well margaritas and $5 premium margaritas.

Happy Hour

Date: Every Monday through Friday

Time: 3:00-7:00 p.m.

Location: North Patio

Join us on the north patio for specialty drinks! Enjoy the misting and fan system when it’s warm, cozy fire pits when it’s cool and our relaxing furniture. We have live entertainment every Friday night! $3.25 well drinks, $2.50 cans of beer, $3.25 glass of wine.

UpTown Art Painting Class and Wine

Date: Friday, May 20

Time: 2:00-4:30 p.m.

Location: Navajo Room

Cost: $23 per person

Join us for an afternoon of painting and wine with your friends! UpTown Art brings painting to you with an all-inclusive class that will allow you to leave with your very own masterpiece. The cost of the event includes all the materials you will need, personalized instruction and a complimentary glass of wine. Follow along as an UpTown Artist leads the entire class through painting the selected event picture.

Not an artist? That’s okay! The instructors are there to make it easy for you to follow along and will help individuals as needed.

Anglers Flea Market

Date: Saturday, May 21

Time: 6:00-10:00 a.m.

Location: Parking Lot

The Anglers Club hosts monthly flea markets and uses the proceeds to fund children’s fishing derbies. Vendors may reserve a spot in the flea market for $5 at the Administrative Services desk. The Anglers also accept donated items.

Sunday Omelet Station at the Sunset Grill

Date: First Sunday of each month

Time: 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Location: Arizona Room

Cost: $7.95 per person

Join us on the first Sunday of each month for our featured omelet station! Includes a made-to-order omelet served with a featured side item.

Sunset Grill Dinner Service

Date: Thursday and Friday

Time: 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Location: Arizona Room

Join us for full service dinner provided from your very own Association restaurant! Thursday night is our featured prime rib special! House Cut is only $14.95 and our King Cut is $17.95. Every Friday is our traditional all-you-can-eat fish fry for only $11.95! We hope to see you soon!

Homeowner Hospitality Day

Date: Last Friday of every month

Time: 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Location: Navajo Room

Join us for complimentary coffee and refreshments. This is our way of saying thank you to residents and volunteers in our community.

Team Trivia

Date: Every Monday

Time: 6:00 p.m.

Location: Arizona Room

Team Trivia is a live hosted trivia game. Play as a solo player or bring your friends to lend a helping mind. Compete against other teams for prizes! Our categories include everything from history, TV, sports, geography, music and just about anything else you can think of. If you want to show your competition just how smart you are this is your chance!

There is no cost or obligation to play. All materials will be provided free of charge. Just bring yourself and a desire to have some fun! There will be a cash bar available and a chance to win prizes and enter to win the 50/50 raffle.
