SLCC Library Happenings

Sharon Lavender

We are pleased to have a copy of Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors by George W. Bush. It is hard to do justice to this inspirational book that tells two stories. First, it is about 66 of the men and women who have served in the military since 9/11, their sacrifices and devotion to our country. Second is the desire of former President Bush to learn to paint and then use this ability to create lasting portraits of these veterans.

Recently, President Bush appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show and demonstrated his new talent by sketching Kimmel for the viewers. A group of the men and women highlighted in the book were in the audience. Bush has spent many hours with each veteran in this book, and he considers them friends. Their stories could bring tears to your eyes. The courage of these men and women is awesome. These portraits are a vivid reminder of the sacrifice of the thousands who serve in our military and give so much of themselves. The former president has committed the rest of his life to helping these warriors and their families. Proceeds from this book go toward helping post-9/11 veterans and their families transition to civilian life. This wonderful book is a current best-seller, and you will want to check it out soon.

Newly released books are available for borrowing Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. We have the very latest mysteries by several popular writers, such as C.J. Box, J.A. Jance and J.D. Robb. Please stop by our library soon. v
