October 12 Meeting Brings Congressional, Legislative, and Local Candidates Together as Mail Voting Begins
A virtual one-stop candidate shop leading up to the November General Election will be the theme of the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) October meeting. With mail ballots arriving and Election Day just weeks away, voters will have a final opportunity to hear directly from candidates for congressional, legislative and local offices while also getting information about propositions, judicial retention elections and other choices they’ll encounter as they work their way down the ballot.
The meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 12, at the Sun Lakes Country Club, Navajo Room, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N. A social hour begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.
Among the featured candidates is Elizabeth Lee (Nurse Lee), Democratic candidate for the U.S. House in Congressional District 5. Also appearing will be the Democratic candidates seeking election to the Arizona Legislature from Legislative District 13:
* Kristie O’Brien, candidate for the Arizona Senate, is a lawyer, mediator and mother.
* Dr. Racquel “Rockee” Armstrong, candidate for the Arizona House, is an educator at Arizona State University.
* Jacob Weinberg, candidate for the Arizona House, is a veteran and business auditor.
Also scheduled to speak is Jennifer Jermaine, candidate for Justice of the Peace for the San Marcos Precinct. Other candidates seeking office in the Nov. 3 election may also attend.
But candidates are only part of what voters will face when they receive their ballots. The October meeting will also provide information about ballot propositions and judicial retention elections, helping attendees become more familiar with some of the choices that can easily be overlooked amid the attention given to higher-profile races.
The Sun Lakes Democratic Club represents more than 2,500 registered Democrats in the Sun Lakes community and advocates for policies that promote a thriving, inclusive Arizona. The club welcomes residents interested in learning more about issues affecting Arizona and meeting candidates seeking public office.
The Sun Lakes Democratic Club also continues its support of Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations may be brought to the meeting or made online through Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donors can receive a receipt for eligible contributions.
