The Sun Lakes Garden Club is pleased to have Julie B. Evans “dish some dirt” on what goes on in a successful garden and gift center. Julie is a new club member who moved here last year after working for many years in her sibling’s family-owned Beaver Bark Gift and Garden Center in Central Washington. She is proud of the award-winning “Destination” nursery that just celebrated its 25th anniversary. The nine-acre location includes an extensive gift center, indoor glasshouse, 10,000 sq. ft. grow house, outdoor perennial and tree nursery, a pond and fish center, as well as a large bark, rock and hard scape yard! Julie says, “If it grows… Beaver Bark probably has it!”

Julie will provide photos and show us just what it takes to get those beautiful plants from seeds to you. She will also explain what it’s like to go to the wholesale “market” and purchase products in the staggering quantities and dollar volumes that will support thousands of avid gardeners and customers.

The club members enjoy Julie’s positive attitude and are pleased that she has agreed to share this information with members and guests at our August 20 meeting.

Guests are always welcome to attend a meeting. Our meetings start with socializing, refreshments and greeting guests at 9:30 a.m., followed by a featured presentation and business meeting until noon. Many members and guests also gather after the meeting for an optional lunch at a nearby restaurant. Guests may decide to become a member to enjoy field trips and receive our newsletter. Memberships are $20 per year, and a spouse or second member in the household is only $10 per year. We meet every month on the third Tuesday at the Chapel Center next door to the Sun Lakes All Faiths Community Church. It is located at 9230 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N., across the street from the Sun Lakes Country Club. If you have any questions, please call Starla Kramer at 480-540 8080.
