Sun Lakes Garden Club – Swarming Bees

Derrick Shields, local professional beekeeper

“What should you do when you see a swarm of bees in your garden?”

Derrick Shields is a local professional beekeeper who will be the featured speaker for the Feb. 15 meeting. He’ll share his vast knowledge of bees and how important they are as pollinators for our food supply.

On Jan. 25 the members went to the Phoenix Worm Farm to learn about sustainable gardening and the benefits of adding worm-castings to our veggie and flowers in our gardens. The members always enjoy lunch together after the fieldtrips. Visitors from any city are always welcome, and membership is open to all. We have “Green-Thumbers” and “Black-Thumbers” who like to continue learning.

Check out our monthly newsletters on our website at SunLakesGardenClub.org. There is an option to join online under the “Membership” option. Club memberships are only $20 per year, and a spouse or second member in the household is only $10 per year. We meet on the third Tuesday of the month, year-round, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting location is at the Chapel Center (house next door to the Sun Lakes All Faiths Community Church and across the street from the Sun Lakes Country Club), at 9230 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N., in Sun Lakes.
