Fifty Knights of Columbus members and guests enjoyed a dinner buffet at Cottonwood Country Club on Aug. 14. This was the first face-to-face program event of the Council for more than a year, due to the COVID-19 virus. During the lockdown, Council business meetings have been conducted either virtually—using the GoToMeeting system—or “hybrid” (combined in-person and virtual).

The event was chaired by Dennis Pachura who is also the “call” chairman for the Council. Special guests were Father Pierre Hissy, Chaplain for the Council, and a group of widows of Council members. Held in the Saguaro Room at Cottonwood Country Club, participants were treated to a two-entrée Italian buffet which was self-serve and “all you care to eat”! After the meal, drawings were held for two door prizes, won by recent transfers John Caravella and Paul Pluskowski (author’s note: the new guys always seem to get the goodies!) and the 50/50 drawing which netted Chuck Queenville one-half of the money collected! The other half was donated to the State Knights of Columbus Water Bottle Drive, which provides lifesaving water to the homeless across Arizona.

Grand Knight Ken Ford said, “We are very pleased with the turnout, especially in light of so many members being gone for the summer and others who are reluctant to attend group meetings for fear of the pandemic! Brother Pachura did a great job making our year-round members aware of the dinner! More such events are planned for the coming year.” He added, “The Council also thanks Event Coordinator Andy Warren and all the employees at Cottonwood Country Club who made the event so enjoyable!”
