Shanna Nyberg and Karen Wollscheid
We’d like to introduce Shanna Nyberg who currently serves as Sun Lakes Rock, Gem and Silver Club’s Secretary and Silver Co-Chair. Like so many, she and her husband moved to Sun Lakes for the wonderful retirement community, sunshine, and Arizona lifestyle they had always enjoyed. After Covid lockdown Shanna began exploring the many opportunities available within the community.
“One day while playing Mah Jongg, a friend asked what I planned to do with all the rocks I collected while rock hounding, which led to an introduction of the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem and Silver Club. I immediately signed up for a lapidary class and started my first cabochons. This led to silver classes so I could turn my stones into jewelry.”
“I fell in love with the many crafts offered by the club and was fortunate to learn from talented instructors who generously shared their knowledge and passion. Additionally, I continue to learn, and share, through programs at the Mesa Arts Center. What I love most about the club is the creativity, camaraderie, and willingness of members to share ideas and encourage one another.”
Karen Wollscheid has been a member of the Club since 2016 and serves as the Club’s Treasurer and website manager, as well as our gourd crafting instructor. Karen has won numerous artistic awards with her gourd art entries in the Arizona Gourd Society’s Gourd Art Competition. She enjoys sharing her expertise and teaching gourd crafting to many members over the years, and encourages everyone to try something new because “you don’t have to be great at art to enjoy making art.”
Remember: Finishing a project is the ultimate act of creative bravery … we challenge you to be brave.
