Born in California, Don Hall and his wife Pat previously resided in Oregon, Nevada, and then loved the last 30 years here in Arizona. After retiring as a project estimator in heavy construction, he and Pat enjoyed exploring historical sites, photography, music, and visiting rock shops and gem shows, all of which naturally led Don to joining the Sun Lakes Rock Club in 2014.
During the last five years, Don has proudly worn the hat for the club’s equipment manager. This very important job gets the call to fix, repair, or purchase new any one of over 100 machines located in all four of our craft shops. With nearly 200 active members taking classes in all four craft shops, one can only imagine the wear and tear on our equipment.
If that weren’t enough, Don enjoys being the chairperson for Lapidary and Opals, and he is also an instructor for Lost Wax, Silver, and Lapidary. So, when you see Don, be sure to thank him for his dedication and valued service to the Rock Club!
Want to know more about the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem, Silver, and Creative Crafts Club? Just go online to our website, slrgs.com. First, you’ll see how easy it is, then you’ll want to know the basics: A rock is a natural material composed of one or more minerals. A mineral is a solid, naturally occurring substance composed of one or more elements. A gem is a precious or semi-precious mineral that has been cut and polished. (Pretty exciting stuff, huh?)
Okay, that’s it! Now you can join our Rock Club!
We have three rules: Have Fun, Get Creative, and Learn Something New. How does one do that? Just come to one of our general meetings, which are held at 10 a.m. on the third Monday of each month, October through April. Where? At the Cottonwood HOA Lecture Hall. December is a great time to get started, as we have just begun our 2023-24 season.
To help you get started, we offer 19 separate craft classes. And then when you’re at a general meeting, you can speak with the instructor, get all of your questions answered, and get started with a class in any one of our four craft workshops. Cottonwood has two—a full club craft shop and a glass studio. SLCC has one, and Oakwood has one. It does not matter which HOA you are a resident of!
As a Sun Lakes resident, you are welcome to join the club, take a class, and for a small fee, work independently on your projects at all four of our craft shops. Where else can you have this much fun with an annual membership fee of only $30?
