Coach Kwong
The three primary shots in tennis are serve, groundstroke, and volley. Another underutilized shot is a lob. Many players don’t consider this shot when in play. A lob is a high arching shot best used when your opponent is at the net or when you are running out wide or going back toward the fence. A lob will buy you time to get back into position or will send your opponent racing for the ball hit behind them. The next time you are on the court practicing your serves, take a moment to drop hit the ball. Pretend someone is standing near the net and if that imaginary someone could touch your lob shot or not. Remember, this specialty shot (lob/lobbing) can be used offensively or defensively to get you out of trouble and put your opponent in trouble.
