The Desert Rivers Audubon Society (DRAS) has resumed the monthly Burrowing Owl Walks.
The fourth Saturday of each month at sundown, the burrowing owls venture out to catch dinner. This event is due to a new and exciting partnership with Arizona State University! Join us from 5 p.m. through sunset to see the new burrowing owl colony built by Wild at Heart and ASU Polytechnic. Desert Rivers Audubon Society volunteers and Polytechnic student Braxton Gibson will be there to direct you and answer your questions. March 8 is the next speaker meeting. It is at the Gilbert Library at Greenfield and Guadalupe. Don’t miss this one. Liberty Wildlife brings the birds: owls, hawks (big and small), and usually an eagle. You can see these birds up close and personal. The grandkids love it and are encouraged to sit up front. In person, masks are encouraged, and seats are spread out. It is also available on Zoom with registration at the website.
March 5: The next Free Family Birdwalk is at Chandler Veterans Oasis Park at Chandler Heights and Higley. It is the first Saturday, March 5, from 8 until 11 a.m. DRAS lends binoculars, and a bird leader will take you through the park and point out the different birds. It’s fun for families. April 2 will be the last Family Bird Walk at Oasis until October.
March 19 is the Free Family Bird Walk at Gilbert Water Ranch at Guadalupe and Greenfield, east of the Gilbert Library. It is also from 8 until 11 a.m. Again, binoculars are available, and there will be a bird leader. This is the last Family Birdwalk until October!
March 26: The Burrowing Owls at sunset on the ASU Polytechnic.
