Two Musical Celebrations At Community Church

Doug Ross, Interim Pastor, Sun Lakes Community Church

The East Valley Chorale will return to Sun Lakes Community Church Sunday evening, April 7, 2019, at the Sun Lakes Chapel. More than 90 voices combine under the direction of Dr. Bruce Cochran. Audiences enjoy Dr. Cochran’s sharing of humorous and inspirational stories that underscore the meaning behind musical selections.

An avid reader, he delights concertgoers with favorite author excerpts including Philip Gulley of the acclaimed “Harmony Series,” Tim Hansel; Chris Fabry and Chuck Swindoll. Notably, his engaging connection with singers and musicians becomes an infectious joyful exchange, which ministers to audiences of all ages.

As church choirs were replaced with smaller Worship Teams, individuals who enjoyed singing in a church choir longed for a way to continue. Along came Bruce and the East Valley Chorale!

This chorale inspires – motivates – challenges – and inspires every listener with music of all kinds – certainly some of your longtime favorite hymns.

This year, they have announced a theme – “Sing for Joy” – and your heart will be singing for joy when you leave at the end of this concert. We are so pleased to have them return after such an inspiring presentation last year.

The “Sing for Joy” concert will take place Sunday, April 7, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. The event is free, but a free-will offering will be taken for the chorale’s ongoing expenses. Join us at the Sun Lakes Chapel, located across from the Sun Lakes Country Club. For a FREE Really Big Ticket to guarantee you a seat if you arrive before 5:45 p.m., come to the church office at 25811 S. Country Club Drive. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.

On Easter Sunday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m., the Sun Lakes Community Church Choir will present the musical Redeeming Love Has Been My Theme, created by Marty Parks. The choir, under the direction of Linda Yarbrough – our ever-so-creative minister of music – will set an inspirational tone for your entire Easter Sunday.

“Music is always an important part of Christian worship – and during the Easter season, our celebration of Jesus’ death on the cross and his resurrection is clearly expressed in some of our favorite hymns like “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Up from the Grave He Arose,” observed Doug Ross, interim Pastor.

God’s redeeming love will help make this Easter Sunday an unforgettable day – as we celebrate an unforgettable account of what Easter is all about! Easter is the time when infrequent church attendees stop to acknowledge the significance of this special day in human history. All are invited to rejoice with us as we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Tim Bennett will sing, as will Lilly Whitson – Tim a resident in Oakwood and Lilly a regular member of our choir.

Easter Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in The Sun Lakes Chapel, across from the Sun Lakes Country Club.
