Update on Italian American Club

Steve Ambroso, President, Sun Lakes Italian American Club

Viva Italia! It’s time for all Sun Lakes Italian American Club (SLIAC) members and guests to get together on Monday, Nov. 1, for the second dinner meeting of the new year.

The Sun Lakes Italian American Club will be having a pork scallopini/roasted vegetable dinner meeting on Monday, Nov. 1, at Cottonwood San Tan Ballroom. This will be our second dinner meeting of the new year. All tables will be spaced appropriately, and there will be a maximum of six people per table. This will allow us to properly use social distancing and COVID-19 safety measures. There will be several tables for “singles only.” Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for sign-in and cash bar. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The cost for the dinner will be $20. If you are thinking about joining the club and want to check us out, feel free to attend. Your dinner will cost you $20. When you join the club, there is a $15 annual membership fee that will cover you from October through May, 2022. If you are a member or on our mailing list, you will be receiving an email with RSVP info around the 18th of the month. RSVP must be made by Thursday, Oct. 28, before the dinner/meeting. After Oct. 28, it will be too late to add you to the RSVP list. Remember, if you need a gluten-free dinner, let us know when you RSVP.

We had a successful October dinner meeting with over 60 members in attendance. With the addition of several snowbirds, we are anticipating close to 80 in attendance for the November dinner meeting. The speaker at the October meeting was John Texeira from AZ Fire and Medical, who discussed CPR and the correct way to use the AED defibrillator. The theme for the November meeting will be “Italian Genealogy and Where Are You From?” Your speaker will be our own Linda McCabb.

After a survey of members, the top five topics for future dinner meetings will be:

1. Best local Italian restaurants

2. Interactive Italian Trivia

3. Potluck Italian lunch at Sisk Park in March

4. Best Italian cities to tour (Rome, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, Capri, Venice)

5. Speaker from Queen Creek Olive Mill gourmet market and restaurant

We are looking forward to a fun-filled dinner meeting with fellow SLIAC members. If you have questions, contact me at [email protected] or 480-577-9445.

Grazie. Ci vediamo presto. (Thank you. See you soon.)
