Walk for Sjögren’s Is Coming to Your House March 16!

Maria Davis

I have been a Sjogren’s (SHOW-grins) patient since 2004. I am particularly excited about this year’s event, since people can participate from the comfort of their own home. You can join in an educational Zoom meeting and/or go out and walk right in your own neighborhood (details below).

What is Sjogren’s? Sjögren’s is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects the entire body. It is the second most common autoimmune rheumatic disease, affecting as many as four million Americans, with upwards of 74,000 people in Arizona alone.

Who will be walking? Hundreds of Sjögren’s patients, family members, friends, caregivers, health care professionals, and walk enthusiasts will “gather together” virtually for the Southwest Walk for Sjögren’s for all of Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico, supported by the Sjögren’s Foundation.

Why Zoom? The informative and entertaining Opening Ceremony over Zoom will be led by dynamic Foundation Chairperson Janet Church. The event features prizes and an “Ask the Doctor” panel of local health care experts who will be on hand to answer questions about the disease.

Where do I walk? After the Zoom meeting, participants will take off on their walk safely from wherever they are. No need to go downtown or anywhere in particular.

When is it? Saturday, March 16. Zoom Opening Ceremonies start at 10 a.m. Mountain Time. You can also choose your own walk date/time!

How do I join the Zoom? Details can be found at Events.Sjogrens.org/SWWalk.

What about walk teams? You can join my Sun Lakes walk team (called All Aces), form your own team, or register solo at Events.Sjogrens.org/SWWalk.

Why donate? The Southwest Walk for Sjögren’s is part of a national fundraising program designed to raise awareness and crucial funds to support Sjögren’s research, patient support, and education. Donations will be accepted online at Events.Sjogrens.org/SWWalk.
