Rose Sumners
Two of our beloved long time members passed away recently; we will miss their company and their artistic talents greatly.
Past President and founding member, Dick Weidner, painted amazing watercolors of many subjects. Dick’s professional artist participations included serving as long time membership chairman of the Arizona Watercolor Association, membership in the Scottsdale Artist League and the local Southeast Valley Critique Group. His western landscapes and pueblos showed often on our gallery wall. His sense of humor often colored our gatherings with original sayings and clever retorts.
Sylvia Nelson’s membership and leadership also influenced the club for many years. Among her many roles, she served as club President. She energetically participated at every art sale and showing. Sylvia painted a very broad range of subject matter, portraits, landscapes, boats and so much more. Her watercolors now grace many homes across the country. At her own home were so many lovely paintings resting along walls, she really had a gallery!
Our newest gallery theme seems strangely appropriate as we celebrate the lives of our friends. “Circles” displays the shape with creativeness and abstractness of thought on our Art Room gallery walls beside the Cottonwood courtyard. Please come and enjoy the artwork; they are also available for purchase.
