Bill Boone, Arizona Ranger – Sun Lakes Company
When most people hear the term Arizona Ranger, their minds might flash back to black-and-white Westerns or the storied lawmen of the Old West. But today’s Arizona Rangers are not just a page from history—we are a dedicated, all-volunteer law enforcement support and community service organization, proud to serve Arizona and our local communities, including right here in Sun Lakes.
Who We Are
The modern Arizona Rangers are recognized under Arizona Revised Statute ARS 41-4201 and operate as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization. We are made up of citizens who have passed rigorous background checks, completed formal training, and are committed to assisting law enforcement and supporting our communities.
Each Ranger volunteers their time—there is no pay. We do it because we believe in giving back, upholding the law, and strengthening the communities we love.
Our Mission
Our mission is twofold:
1. To support law enforcement agencies across Arizona in non-enforcement roles.
2. To provide safety, security, and service to community events and charitable activities.
We don’t replace the police—we support them. Rangers often assist with traffic control, crowd management, perimeter security, and public safety during events. We also provide a visible deterrent in high-traffic areas when requested and work hand-in-hand with a wide range of local law enforcement agencies.
Some of the agencies the Sun Lakes Company has worked closely with include the Chandler Police Department, the Town of Superior, the Gila River Police Department, in addition to the Maricopa County and Pinal County Sheriff’s Offices. These partnerships are a source of great pride for us, and we strive to maintain the highest level of professionalism in every interaction.
Training and Professionalism
All Arizona Rangers attend the Arizona Ranger Training Academy (ARTA), where they receive instruction in topics such as ranger standards, use-of-force protocols, defensive tactics, CPR/first aid, de-escalation techniques, and scenario-based training. After completing ARTA, each member must successfully serve a probationary period before becoming a full-fledged Ranger.
Some Rangers bring decades of experience in law enforcement or the military, while others are community-minded civilians who want to serve. What unites us is our shared commitment to honor, integrity, and service.
In the Community
In recent months, the Sun Lakes Rangers have supported local events, including HOA meetings, charity walks, food drives, and veterans’ ceremonies. You may have seen us assisting with traffic and crowd safety during holiday parades, providing a reassuring presence at places of worship, or helping provide security and coordinating logistics at community festivals in Chandler, Superior, and nearby areas.
Join Us or Support Us
The Arizona Rangers are always looking for dedicated volunteers—for both uniformed service and support roles. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back and serve your community with pride, we welcome your interest.
