Speaking of classes, we (Mary and Jan) have a piece of history to share. NA had been very successful, but we wanted more. We introduced a new type of class, called a roundtable. Since that day nearly 15 years ago, we have had an array of classes in which we learned, laughed, and (especially) shared. The first one was on how to make good soup, which we both felt we did not do well, but, oh my, did we get tips! Since then, we have had a variety of roundtable topics.

Here’s a challenge for you: Offer a class around a topic you enjoy. Do you have a hobby or special interest to share? Are you a little nervous about standing up in front of others? Consider starting with a roundtable discussion where you interact with a small group who are interested in the same thing. Volunteers are available to guide you through the process from idea to a successful presentation. Contact Susan Bjorn, curriculum chair, at [email protected] to get started.

New Adventures is a not-for-profit, membership organization affiliated with Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC). Annual membership is $60, and the semester administration fee is $20 for each semester you enroll in classes. When you become a member during the summer semester, your membership includes the summer of the following year, so you get an extra semester free!

New Adventures still remains a bargain compared to many lifelong learning programs, which charge up to $40 per class. We charge no per-class fee, so your dues and semester fee allow you to take as many classes as you wish at no additional cost. Also, with your membership, you receive CGCC student discounts on many college and community activities.

COVID protocol has been updated. We now recommend masking up when attending in-person classes to protect those New Adventures members who are among the most vulnerable. We will continue to observe social distancing required by CGCC by limiting spaces available in all in-person summer classes.
