The Sun Lakes Women’s Association had some pretty special decorations and door prizes at the Spring Luncheon on March 21. These were created with many pairs of beautiful fancy shoes and silk flowers – all donated items to the association.

After the wonderful success of the March sale back on March 18 and 19, what’s next for the ladies of The Sun Lakes Women’s Association? Well, we start over! Donations never stop, so neither do we!
The Sun Lakes Women’s Association accepts almost any donation except large appliances, mattress and box springs and clothing. Donations can be made by the item or the houseful. Just call 480-895-9270, ext. 220 and a representative will discuss with you the options. We are a 501(c)(3) so you will receive a tax donation receipt for the value of your donation and we’ll make arrangements to come pick it up.
Every Wednesday we pick up donated items, sometimes many stops per day, picking up single items, sometimes many, many people at one stop to pack up and remove a whole house full of donated items. Here we desperately need men who can help with the physical challenges of the move. If you have some time free and a desire to meet some fun people and do some good work, please call 480-895-9270, ext. 220.
As items are donated they are separated into furniture, or other items. Furniture is cleaned, priced, photographed and stored until the next sale. Other items are sorted out to different departments – kitchen, décor, linens, Christmas or other holiday, vintage, small appliances. Each is then tested and inspected, cleaned, priced and repacked until the next sale. In some cases, like with silk flowers, pieces are taken apart and then reworked. Each department knows what products sell best. Sewing items for example may not be worth much individually, so they are stored and made into many sewing kits to maximize their value. Still other items receive minor repairs to be sellable. All of your generosity keeps us very busy all year.
May 9 will be our last regular meeting of the spring. About half of our membership scatter for the summer so official meetings resume in September. We do continue to meet through the summer though. Every Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the Sun Lakes Country Club Arts and Crafts Room you will find us working on projects and enjoying some treats and friendship. If you are a woman who resides in any Sun Lakes community (owners and renters), then you are eligible to be a member of the Sun Lakes Women’s Association. Stop by any Monday for a visit.
Another way to support us (and all of Sun Lakes) is to purchase a raffle ticket for the new EZGO golf cart. It’s on display in the Sun Lakes Country Club lobby and tickets are available for purchase at the Administration Desk, six for $10 or 2$ each. The drawing for this beautiful cart will be November 6.
