There may have been song, dance, golf and fun all day March 10 but when the sun set on Cottonwood’s Lady Niners’ annual Member-Guest benefit, it was the Sun Lakes firemen who had the biggest smiles.

The 120 lady golfers raised $6,500 and the check was presented March 24 to Deputy Chief Daniel Guerra by Lady Niner Bette Lu Buchanan, president.

President Buchanan opened the tournament by sharing three words: “Potential, momentum and impact.” “Because of the potential of our membership and the momentum they created, we will have an impact on our community by donating to create a better Sun Lakes through assistance to our fire department,” Buchanan continued.

“This gift will go a long way in equipping our new truck,” Deputy Chief Guerra said in accepting the check. The new truck replaces one with 100,000 miles. Additional necessary equipment costs about $10,000.

Oakwood’s Lady Niners were guests March 17 and enjoyed Scramble competition followed by a cocktail hour on the patio.

Diana DePree volunteered to be the Assistant Handicap chair.
