Autumn is here, and with it comes thoughts of the holidays, family gatherings, and fun events such as football games, soccer games, and Halloween celebrations. And the change of seasons also leads us to thoughts of how we can best take care of our health as threats of seasonal illnesses and the flu start to pop up.
It is important for us to maintain a healthy immune system. The immune system and the lymphatic system work closely together to protect the body from harmful pathogens and disease. Natural essential oils help the immune system bring itself into balance, because they are soluble in fat and thus are able to penetrate the cell membrane. For threats that exist outside the cell, essential oils can assist in warding off such risks. Treating our body properly will protect us against environmental threats.
So, how can we give our immune system a boost?
First and foremost, it is important for us to follow a healthy diet, eating whole plant foods and avoiding processed foods. A healthy diet should be supported by proper supplements and a good probiotic. A healthy diet with proper exercise and enough sleep are the very basis for a natural lifestyle.
Supplement these basic foundational blocks with essential oils and see the potential impact they could have on your health and wellness. There are many essential oils that offer a boost to the immune system. Remember that most essential oils can be applied topically, aromatically, and internally.
Eucalyptus: This oil is recommended to protect the body from a wide variety of bacterial infections. If your immune system is compromised by another illness or as a result of an injury or fatigue, Eucalyptus can act as a natural booster for your immunity.
Rosemary: The active components in Rosemary are antioxidant, anti- inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic. This represents a three-pronged attack against many different diseases and pathogens that could threaten the immune system.
Oregano: Oregano supports a healthy immune system, healthy digestion, and respiratory function when used internally. It offers powerful antioxidants when ingested.
