Bocce with the Sun Lakes Italian-American Club

John Terranova, President

The Sun Lakes Italian-American Club (SLIAC) had their annual Potluck and 3rd Annual Mini Bocce Ball Tournament at Sisk Park on March 3, and Steve Ambroso, president of the SLIAC, asked Mike Buscaglia and yours truly, both member of the SLIAC, if we would organize a bocce tournament, as we did in previous years, for interested members of the SLIAC.

A total of 28 members took part in this year’s tournament, and the teams were drawn at random, with four players on each team and seven teams competing.

The team of Enza Stivale, Monty Bonello, Faye Jakovich, and Dale Davenport survived the tough competition and were crowned SLIAC Tournament Champions for 2024. The winners received a bottle of Le Bocce Chianti wine with the compliments of the Sun Lakes Bocce Ball Club.

As in previous years, a fun time was had by all, while the skill level continues to improve by all Italian Club participants. The tournament was followed by Chef Ambroso’s specialty, grilled Italian sausage, peppers and onions, and delicious sides, which were offered by members of the Italian Club. Once again, “a meal well suited for all the goombas and paesanos”!

Any Sun Lakes resident interested in taking part in bocce ball for the 2024-25 season starting in October can learn more about the club by going to our club’s website at www.sunlakesbocceclub.com.

As always, all new players to the game, or those who require it, can request instruction by our Training Committee by sending an email to the attention of the membership director at [email protected].
