Something exciting is happening at the Cottonwood Tennis courts. The Cottonwood Palo Verde Homeowners Association Board approved a new outreach program that allows anyone from Sun Lakes and nearby communities to play Thursday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. at the Cottonwood courts. No need to join, no cost to players. All ability levels are welcome to participate in the doubles format. Previously, the Thursday evening time slot was limited to those in the free Tennis Clinics on Monday night. A test of the expansion was tried this summer. It drew between 8 and 30 players, depending on the weather and the temperature. The board of the Tennis Club then asked the HOA to extend it throughout the year. They approved the idea.
In addition to the above, the Cottonwood Tennis Club has a new event! On Friday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m., there will be a happy hour, complete with tennis and other games, as well as beverages and happy hour goodies. This event is for members only.
The free Monday night Tennis Clinics begin again on Oct. 10. These are mostly for beginners and intermediate players. The lessons are open to anyone interested in learning the great game of tennis. If you don’t own a racquet, no worries—we have plenty of extras on hand.
The head instructor is Al Wagner. He is assisted by Barbara Jorgensen, Ollie Johnson (a lefty), and Paul Eskridge. Come on down.
