DAR Flag Retirement Ceremony on April 2

Members of the Gila Butte Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

Please join the Gila Butte Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m., for a Flag Burning Ceremony at The American Legion Hall, Post 35, led by Commander Charlie Lang at 2240 W. Chandler Road at Dobson.

According to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the most reverent method of final tribute to the American Flag of the United States of America.

The ceremony will be attended by the Sun Lakes Fire Department Deputy Fire Marshall Eric Cleaver and Eagle Scouts Color Guard Eagle Scout Leader Mr. Ed. Koeneman.

Men, women, and children of all ages are invited to attend, including veterans of all foreign wars. Please do not miss this opportunity! The hall can accommodate 185 people. We look forward to seeing you.

Open bar to follow the ceremony.
